Hi, and thanks for being here. This is our first blog post for our fresh, new website.
Fernleigh Droughtmasters is a family run business located in the beautiful buffle country of Central Queensland. We, Cec & Elaine, have been breeding cattle for over 30 years and registered the stud in 2003. Our daughter, Emily, has grown up on Fernleigh and developed a passion for the industry just as much as us. Her partner, Nathan, hailing from Townsville, has thrown himself into the deep end by moving to the place and he’s loving every minute of it.
Over time, we will hopefully get to know each other face to face – or perhaps we already know each other, but we thought we would right a few points about the things we consider when producing cattle.
Breeding cattle is one thing but breeding quality is another, it takes time, a lot of thinking & planning, hard work, strategic match making and a little luck too.
We are passionate about breeding quiet, authentic cattle who can go and do what they’re meant to – perform. So when we are buying livestock, we look for the same thing. We aim to sell cattle that we would be comfortable to keep in the herd ourselves.
In our business, we have key values and one of those is ‘transparency’. What you see is what you get, we invite you to come and see the bulls, drive around to see some of the breeders and learn about how we work. It’s all well and good to say we are transparent but how do we achieve it? Via the use of reputable, repeatable genetics, collection of data and data analysis, paying attention to how the cattle are performing and scientific/genetic testing.
So welcome, we thank you for the time you’ve taken to have a read of this little blurb and if you would like to have a chat – give us a bell.
