to Fernleigh Droughtmasters
Fernleigh Droughtmaster Stud is a family business in Theodore, Central Queensland, operated by Elaine, Cecil and Emily Pelling and Emily’s partner, Nathan.
Our aim is to consistently produce fertile, well natured cattle that uphold breed standards and repeatedly bring economic return to our clients.
Our operation is based upon transparency and honesty in our cattle business. Like any business, we focus on maintaining a strong foundation while building and expanding towards our future plan.
Built from a solid foundation
Fernleigh was registered in 2004 while the Fernleigh Star prefix, operated by Emily and Nathan became an entity in 2007.
Our Foundation bloodlines were sourced from the Fairhaven Stud, owned by the Piggott family, Rolleston. Approximately 50 D5 females were purchased either in calf or with calf at foot, along with the foundation sires, Fairhaven 03108 and Fairhaven 03177. Other key sires playing a role in the establishment of our stud through AI were Talgai Impact, Swan Horsham and Swan Eagle Hawk.
Our herd operates at two properties, Fernleigh and Avalon, with a total acreage of 4,600 acres. We are extremely lucky to have high quality land that can hold and support higher stocking rates than other land types.
Bull & Female Sales
We sell bulls every year through the National Droughtmaster Bull Sale in Gracemere and the Roma Droughtmaster Bull Sale.
We also have bulls and commercial females for paddock sale throughout the year. Enquiries are welcome year round.

Come and inspect our property and cattle, call and ask questions, we love to engage and talk. The information we gain from our commercial cattle is extremely important to us. We want to demonstrate that we are not just a small stud and that we contribute to the commercial market.
